Picasso, the dominant artistic personality of the 20th century and one of the creative geniuses of all time said – Why do you try to understand art? Do you try to understand the song of a bird?
That must perhaps say it all, to the one who has got the
point of it. Having said that, let me just say to the layman and the artist
alike that most of the time what’s happening is that we are trying to put the
word “ART” in the huge and heavy lexicons we carry and get a meaning out of it.
We humans try to prove our intellect by showing that we know
all and apologetically try to fit in “ART” in that know all and jump to give an
explanation to it. – Let me tell you that some people say that “ART” is a form
of expression like writing and speaking etc. and as we decipher and interpret
writing and speaking, we’re meant to decipher art too. Sadly for the artist and
the observers, it’s not so. At least that’s not the case with Abstract Art.
If we have to understand Abstract Art, then perhaps we must
start by trying to understand the artist making Abstract Art.
The Mind of the artist is like the roots of a tree, all the
time absorbing into its system, to feed the rest of the tree, from whatever is
available in its surroundings. Through a chain of reactions with whatever is
available in the system beforehand, a vision is created which goes into his
work and that vision now unfolds into a space and time. What has been visible
is not necessarily what was assimilated from the surroundings.
The Artist has painted what arose from the depths of his
inner being and through handling spatial representation it has lead to an image
that is plastically clear.
The deficiency lies in the temporal deficiency of language. Yet
if you have made a connection with an abstract of art it is because the artist
distorted a natural form to the extent that it was reborn as nature in the
observer.
